At Home in the Dark

How do we keep hope and wonder alive when the world feels dark?At Home in the Dark gathers daily prayers and poems from members and friends of the Iona Community for the seasons of Advent and Christmas, carrying us through the final days of the year and into Epiphany.  These are reflections for Christmas as it is actually lived: amid joy and grief, waiting and uncertainty, celebration and loneliness, a fragile planet and a world longing for peace. There is room here for candlelight and starlight, angels and shepherds, but also for food banks and refugees, protest and injustice, loss and the everyday struggles of ordinary life.  Yet darkness is not the end of the story. Again and again, these writers discover light in unexpected places: in community and compassion, in resistance and imagination, in laughter, love and the promise of new beginnings.  Honest, hopeful and rooted in the realities of our world, At Home in the Dark offers a prayer or poem for each day, inviting us not to turn away from the darkness, but to discover that even there, we are not alone.
